Welcome to the Peer Mentor Program: Media and Youth Website

What lessons are our young people learning from advertisements and movies?
What kind of messages are receiving from the constant media bombardment that is our modern world?

Our young people live in a non-stop stream of images and advertisements and the messages they receive are often contradictory, confusing, or even harmful. Helping our kids become media-literate will give them power to make their own choices, to accept who they are without having to live up to unrealistic or unhealthy standards, and to build healthy relationships based upon respect and understanding.

Here you will find a variety of materials you can use with your students, including information on booking the Media, Violence and Relationships Workshop (approved by the Halton District School Board), planning your own presentation, and resources you can use in conjunction with the workshop or on their own.

Help your students become more media-literate! Use the links and resources to educate yourself and your students about the connections between the media, stereotypes and relationship violence.

For more information on our Peer Mentor Program or to book a presentation please contact SAVIS of Halton at (905) 825-3622 or visit our website.
