Edmonton Shootings & Domestic Violence

The story of the recent shootings in Edmonton was trending on Twitter this morning. Six adults and two children were killed by the gunman.
In this CBC article, Edmonton’s police chief, Rod Knecht, stated that: “It appears to be an extreme case of domestic violence gone awry,” and confirmed that the killings were planned and deliberate.
The shooter was known to the police, because he had been charged with sexual assault, domestic violence and uttering threats twice in the past two years.
This case illustrates the need for ongoing educational and support work that will continue into 2015 regarding the realities of intimate partner violence.
