SAVIS of Halton offers a number of open and closed counselling groups throughout the year.

We are starting open groups on July 10th, 2025 from 1:30pm – 3:00pm on every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Below are a list of topics to be covered during each session. Individuals should contact the intake line 905-825-3622 press 1, to sign up for the group sessions (space is limited).
Session 1: Introduction to Support Groups & the Impact of Trauma on Isolation
Date: July 10, 2025 1:30-3pm
In this opening session, we’ll explore the purpose and structure of the group. We’ll look at how trauma can contribute to isolation, and how authentic connections with others can support the healing process.
Session 2: Understanding Trauma and Its Impact
Date: July 24, 2025 1:30pm – 3pm
In this session, explore how trauma affects the mind and body, and discover how understanding these effects can foster greater self-compassion and healing.
Session 3: Setting & Honoring Boundaries
Date: August 14, 2025 1:30pm- 3pm
Explore how setting and honoring boundaries supports healthy relationships. This session offers insight into why boundaries can feel difficult after trauma, along with practical tools to support emotional well-being.
Session 4: Coping Strategies for Triggers & Stress
Date: August 28, 2025 1:30pm – 3:00pm
Learn to recognize and manage personal triggers in this interactive session focused on building healthy coping tools. Explore simple, supportive techniques to help you stay grounded and navigate distressing moments with more ease.
Session 5: Exploring Triggers & Mindfulness Techniques
Date: September 11, 2025 1:30pm – 3:00pm
Discover how understanding your triggers can lead to greater self-awareness. In this session, you’ll learn mindfulness techniques that help manage emotional distress and keep you centered in the present moment.
Session 6: Building Healthy Interpersonal Relationships
Date: September 25, 2025 1:30pm – 3:00pm
Examine how trauma may shape your relationships. This session offers practical steps to recognize patterns and support more fulfilling, healthy connections.
Session 7: Understanding the Nervous System & Trauma Responses
Date: October 9, 2025 1:30pm – 3:00pm
Explore how trauma shapes the nervous system and stress responses like fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. This session offers practical tools to help you understand your patterns and support restoring emotional balance.
Session 8: Grief & Loss in the Context of Trauma
Date: October 23, 2025 1:30pm – 3:00pm
Explore the complex connection between grief and trauma. This session helps you recognize different types of grief and introduces gentle, intentional ways to process loss with care and self-compassion.
Session 9: Rebuilding Self-Worth & Confidence After Trauma: A Two-Part Group Series
Participants must commit to attending both sessions.
Date: November 13, 2025 1:30pm – 3:00pm
This two-part group will explore the impact of trauma on self-worth and confidence and offer supportive tools to help reconnect with your inner voice. Through guided discussion and creative expression, participants will reflect on how trauma may have shaped their self-perception and begin to rebuild a foundation of strength, value, and personal empowerment. The series will include a creative component, with the opportunity to design a personal vision board.
Session 9: Rebuilding Self-Worth & Confidence After Trauma: PART 2
Date: November 27, 2025 1:30pm – 3:00pm
This second session continues the exploration of how trauma can affect one’s sense of self. Through group discussion and creative expression, participants will deepen their reflection and continue the process of reconnecting with their strengths, values, and authentic voice. This session will include the creation of a vision board as a way to visualize personal growth and future goals.
Session 10: Future Visioning & Goal-Setting: A Two-Part Group Series
Participants must commit to attending both sessions.
Date: January 8, 2026 1:30pm – 3:00pm
This two-part group invites participants to explore what it means to imagine and build a meaningful future while healing from trauma. Through guided discussion and creative expression, we’ll explore how small, meaningful goals can support a future rooted in your values, hopes, and strengths. This session will include the creation of a vision board as a way to visualize personal growth and future goals.
Session 10: Future Visioning & Goal-Setting: PART 2
Date: January 22, 2026 1:30pm – 3:00pm
In this second session, participants will continue their journey of envisioning a meaningful future through reflection, group discussion, and creative expression. We’ll build upon the work from the first session and continue developing personal vision boards as a way to represent your personal goals, values, and strengths.
