How To Be An Ally
What is an “ally”?
An ally is a person who speaks out, acts and offers support for a person or group that is targeted, stereotyped and discriminated against. They stand up for what is right and help others when needed. You can be an ally by:
- Listening to others with your full, undivided attention.
- Be knowledgeable of the world around you.
- Recognize barriers and struggles within your personal life and your community and think of how to make them better.
- If you see discrimination, racism, oppression or sexism, speak out against it.
- Don’t participate in crude comments or jokes about others.
- Follow your own advices, morals and values.
- Be true to yourself and your beliefs.
- Educate others on your knowledge of existing issues.
- Be open-minded and friendly towards others.
- Be the change you want to see in the world.
