Title: Empowering Us All
Artist: Stephen Rea
The following piece was created after the passing of the great Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I was compelled to create the piece to serve as a reminder of the amazing qualities, tributes and passion for women’s activism that she brought to this world. The use of greens and purples on the one side of the portrait represent the colours associated with women’s rights and equality. The use of blue in the portion of the words is to represent justice and the passion that she had for the system in which she served. All the descriptive words throughout the background are adjectives provided by women of different ages and generations that they associated with her and her fight for equality.
I wanted to use this piece to help give back to my local community and an organization that supports and empowers women. I am humbled to be working with SAVIS of Halton in this project to help raise funds. “No Names, No Judgement, Just Support” is the empowering slogan of this organization who is helping women empower themselves and be strong in the community.
